Dental Crowns & Bridges

Dental Crowns & Dental Bridges

Dental crowns (or caps) are dental restorations that are placed over a tooth when conservative restorations are insufficient to restore form and function. A dental bridge serves to replace a missing tooth or teeth. One type of dental bridge consists of dental crowns placed on either side of the missing tooth to connect the replacement tooth or teeth to them. Another type of dental bridge consists of the replacement tooth attached to the adjacent teeth with wing-like appendages. Dental bridges can also be supported by dental implants. Dental crowns and bridges can be made entirely of tooth-colored material, metal, or a combination to provide optimal esthetics and durability. Some metal-free dental crowns and bridges incorporate stress-bearing materials to enhance their strength and wear-resistance.

Is A Dental Crown/Bridge Right For Me?

A dental crown has many advantages. Dental crowns address esthetic needs, restore tooth function, and enhance the overall health of your mouth. In cases where teeth have large broken down fillings, a dental crown can protect and preserve the remaining natural tooth. To enhance your smile, metal-free, tooth colored, porcelain crowns can also replace older metal or metal with porcelain crowns. Porcelain crowns have translucent qualities that, with the help of an expert cosmetic dentist like Dr. Ty, can allow your new crowns to look just like natural teeth. Following root canal therapy, a dental crown is typically placed over the remaining tooth structure to preserve esthetics and tooth function.

What Happens At the Next Appointment For A Dental Bridge Or Crown?

When the dental bridge or crown is fabricated, your dentist and assistant removes your temporary restoration, and tries on the dental bridge or crown to verify fit and your approval. Once the restoration is adjusted and approved, the dentist uses a luting cement or an adhesive bonding agent to permanently secure the final restoration.

What Happens At The First Appointment For A Dental Crown Or Bridge?

With both dental crowns and bridges, Dr. Ty Etheridge needs to shape the teeth to provide stable support and precise fit of the final restoration. Following tooth preparation, impressions are taken of the teeth, and a replica of your mouth is created for the dental laboratory to make the restoration. You and Dr. Ty Etheridge will carefully discuss the color, shape, and size of the dental crown(s) or dental bridge(s). A temporary restoration is secured to protect the prepared teeth and maintain the precise space left by the tooth until the new restoration is fabricated. If an implant-supported dental crown or bridge is the best option, Dr. Ty Etheride will evaluate your health and suitability for the implant placement. The dentist may also proceed with surgical planning or refer you to a specialist trained in implant surgery.

case #1

Results: The patient was so happy they finally decided to get the work done. They is grateful to our team for providing him with the proper guidance and care. When they first came to us, they didn’t feel like they would ever be able to smile again and was amazed and pleasantly surprised to have a beautiful smile and function again.

Details: This case was accomplished with doing six (6) front crowns. The patient came to me about ten years prior with significant wear on their teeth and was not ready to dive into restorative dental work to regain the function and aesthetics. I remember the day when the patient came in roughly ten years later stating they was finally ready to move forward.

Unfortunately, their teeth had progressed to a more damaged state with compromised function and integrity of their dentition.

First, we had to get back to a stable position, we set off with doing orthodontics to create room to restore the front teeth by pushing the lower teeth back down. Allowing the patient to avoid root canals. After we moved the teeth to a proper position via braces, I added bonded composite to ensure the teeth appear more aesthetically pleasing with size/shape to guide the final orthodontic position. Lastly, were able to do four (4) front upper crowns and veneers on all four (4) canines gaining back desired function and aesthetics. In addition, we whitened the front teeth to improve the overall appearance.

case #2

Results: The patient was thrilled to confidently smile with no longer having the peg laterals affecting their smile and self esteem.

Details: This was a fun case, with a 14-year-old kid who had congenital peg laterals, which are the shape/size they will always be. We went through some alignment with Invisalign and once I felt confident in the position and tissue maturity, I placed two (2) no prep veneers on the peg laterals with completing final position by the Invisalign trays.

case #3

Result: This work was performed about a decade ago and every time I see the patient they are smiling proudly and always makes a point to thank us for helping him achieve their desires.

Details: This patient had struggled with always chipping their teeth and had no proper guidance from their dentist when asking what to do.

He was referred to me and after doing a comprehensive exam, we created a strategic plan that would provide the patient a path to gain back the function and confidence in their smile again. I did four (4) front upper crowns with composite in the inside of the upper canines in conjunction with two (2) veneers on the lower canines.

Additionally, I did contouring of their lower front teeth to create proper guidance to protect their teeth from doing the same damage again

case #4

Results: The patient was ecstatic to see and feel how it was to smile with ease and confidence along with not trying to protect their teeth when smiling anymore.

Details: The patient was constantly reminded of how dissatisfied they were with their existing smile and front two crowns each picture or mirror they saw themselves in.

We restored the patients smile with doing two (2) new crowns and four (4) veneers on the adjacent teeth establishing proper guidance and aesthetics.

case #5

Results: The patient was very pleased to recapture their beautiful smile and appreciative for the great care.

Details: Sadly I saw this patient earlier in the day for their cleaning and remember saying how beautiful their smile was. They ended up calling later that day with having fallen and traumatizing their front teeth. We had to do two (2) root canals due to fracture into the vital tissue (pulp) of the teeth. We then placed two (2) crowns on the front teeth.

She was so happy we were able to see her that day to get (her) out of pain and (recreate the smile) given what happened.
